Discord Alternatives That Don't Require a Phone Number
Discord is the default voice and text chat platform for communities — but it increasingly requires a phone number to participate. For many users, that's a dealbreaker. Here are the best Discord alternatives in 2026 that don't require phone verification.
Why people are leaving Discord
- Phone verification — Many servers now require SMS verification to chat or speak.
- Privacy concerns — Linking a phone number ties your real identity to your communities.
- Regional access — Users in regions with poor SMS infrastructure get locked out.
- Account bans — A single phone number can only be tied to one Discord account.
Best Discord alternatives in 2026
- Wallies Closets — Voice and text rooms with full server-style features. No phone number, no ID. Free to create and join. Built-in moderation, roles, and voice channels.
- Matrix / Element — Open-source and federated. Powerful but technical to self-host.
- Revolt — Discord-style UI without phone verification, but smaller community.
Why Wallies Closets stand out
Closets give you the same things Discord servers do — voice channels, text channels, roles, moderation — without the phone gate. You can create a Closet for your community in seconds, invite members by link, and run voice rooms without ever sharing personal data. And because Wallies is also a content and earning platform, your community gets benefits Discord doesn't offer: creator revenue share, in-app currency (ILY), and built-in monetization.
What you can do in a Closet
- Voice channels with multi-user audio
- Text chat with attachments, emoji, and reactions
- Custom roles and moderation tools
- Invite-link based access — no phone verification
- Built-in monetization for community creators
